We are excited to have you in Chile!
We know many of you are visiting for the first time, so we want to help you make the most out of your trip.
Here are some of our favorite destinations that we recommend exploring!
Santiago
Santiago is the capital and largest city in Chile. It’s nestled at the foot of the Andes mountain and contains many unique neighborhoods.
Where to stay: Las Condes, Vitacura, or Providencia
How to get around: Uber, Metro de Santiago
What to do: View the city from Cerro San Cristobal. Shop around Barrio Italia, Cenco Costanera, or Parque Arauco. Visit the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Parque Bicentenario, or Barrio Lastarria. You can even attend a wedding at Club de La Unión de Santiago!
Colchagua
The climate and proximity to the equator make Chile’s central valleys strikingly similar to popular wine regions in California—the most famous being Maipo, Casablanca, and Colchagua. We spent a few days in Valle de Colchagua in 2024 savoring incredible wines, delicious food, and breathtaking views. If you're looking for a relaxing and delicious addition to your trip, this is it!
Where to stay: Colchagua or Santa Cruz. We stayed at Hotel Casa de Campo and LOVED it.
How to get around: Rental car
What to do: Dine at Fuegos de Apalta. Take the cable car to the top of Vina Santa cruz. Ride a carriage through Viu Manent. Make your own wine at Vina MontGras.
Atacama Desert
The Atacama Desert is AWESOME. We visited in 2023 and stayed in a small, touristy hub in the middle of the desert: San Pedro. From there, tours run every day to all of the surrounding sites.
Where to stay: San Pedro de Atacama
How to get there: Fly 2 hours from Santiago to Calama, Antofagasta. From there, San Pedro de Atacama is a one hour drive to the southeast. Reliable taxis/transfer services are located at the Calama airport, but may also be offered through accommodations in San Pedro.
What to do: Explore the otherworldly terrain of Valle de la Luna and Piedras Rojas. Float in the lagoons of the many salt flats. Wake up early with the flamingos at the Los Flamencos National Reserve. Sign up for a stargazing tour to observe the Milky Way. Bike or wander around the town, exploring the shops, markets, bars, and restaurants.
